Q - Why should I use a professional installer?
A - At Prestige Garage Doors, we firmly believe that the installation of a garage door is not a do-it-yourself job. A garage door is the largest moving object in your home and because of the large number of small parts; its installation is highly technical. Connecting the springs can be particularly dangerous and proper installation is critical to the performance of your door. One of the other services a professional installer can provide is the disposal of your old door, if you are replacing a door. Professional installers can typically install a door in a few hours and are careful to make sure safety requirements are met. Installations by most homeowners typically span several days and cause much frustration. In addition, incorrect installation can void certain warranties.
Q - How do I arrange a measure and quote for my house?
A - Simple! Just ring us on (03) 9305 4032 to make an appointment for a Free Measure and Quote.
While we would all prefer to just get a quote from someone over the phone, unfortunately with a garage door, this is not the best way. A garage door dealer really needs to visit your home and measure up your door opening to give you an accurate quote. It is not recommended that you do your own measure up for your door. Garage door dealers are trained to measure the opening, and know what allowances they need to make for tracks, wheels, etc. before they finalise a door size. Also, we don't suggest you use the measurements that one dealer gives you, to just source quotes from other dealers. It all comes down to the type of door, your site conditions, etc. Before you go with a dealer, make sure they have visited your home themselves and measured up.

Q - Which Garage Door do I need?
A - There are a range of different types of garage doors, as well as different styles of openers and other accessories available. Not all doors will suit your garage or carport, but your garage door dealer will be able to advise you on this, once they are on site. Before they arrive though, it is worth doing a little bit of your own research. You need to consider:
- What type of door do I like? There a multiple options for steel sectional doors, timber sectional doors, roller doors, designer doors, Flex-A-Doors and tilting doors.
- What opener will suit your home and lifestyle? If you have bedrooms near the garage, a shift worker in the home, or teenagers who come in at all hours, maybe you should consider a quiet opener. If you have a carport, you can automate that door as well. There are even openers that run from solar energy!
- What about accessories? There are a range of different accessories available for your door and opener, to make it more suitable to your lifestyle. Talk to our team today about the extra safety options that Prestige Garage Doors offer.
Q - What is the procedure for ordering a garage door?
A - Double check any comparison quotes to ensure you are comparing similar products, then order form the company you feel happiest with.
If you choose to get quotes from multiple dealers, and you notice a price difference between them, make sure you question them, to be sure you are comparing apples with apples. If the quote only says B&D Statesman, for example, is it a Panelift or a Firmapanel door? While these are both B&D doors, they have different features, which mean they have different prices. There are also differences in openers. One of the biggest differences is in the warranty. Ask the dealer - how many years is the warranty for? Is it on-site repair or back to base? Does the warranty cover the whole opener and installation, or is it only the motor? Just check you know what you are getting, before you give your chosen dealer the go ahead.
Your Garage Door is made to measure so will take several weeks to be manufactured. The dealer will arrange a suitable time to install your door. The installation will take approximately 2 hours or more, depending on the type of door and the difficulty of the installation.
Enjoy your new door and opener! Should you have any concerns after installation, your first point of call should be the dealer who installed the door. Please feel free to ring us on (03) 9305 4032.
Q - My garage/carport doesn't seem to have much space between the door opening and ceiling (headroom), can I fit a garage door?
A - B&D have released Flex-A-Door for just your type of application. Fitted with the famous Roll-A-Door curtain, Flex-A-Door slides up and along the ceiling, and needs minimal headroom, so now every garage or carport can fit a B&D Door.
Q - My door is an unusual size. Are all door sizes available?
A - Yes. We can supply residential doors in widths beginning at 1200mm up to 6600mm. We can make any width in between, in five millimetre increments. (Note - not all models available in all sizes)
Q - I want to replace my old door, but don't know how to dispose of my old one. Will you take care of that?
A - We will haul your old door away after the new door is installed for a small additional fee. Discuss this with the salesperson when you get your estimate on your new door.
Q - Do I need a lock on my garage door?
A - If an electric garage door opener has been or is going to be installed on your door, it may not be necessary to have a lock. Newer electric openers function as the lock, making it unlikely that an intruder would be able to lift your door from the outside. If you have an older opener, check to see if your door can be lifted from the outside. We do not recommend that you install a lock with an opener, because someone accidentally may try to automatically open the door when it is physically locked, possibly causing damage. You should consider a lock if you do not intend to have an automatic opener.
Q - What safety features do you recommend?
A - The garage door is usually the largest moving item in your home and consequently, failures or misuse can cause serious injury. Consequently, we recommend you follow our garage door safety tips. In addition, there are types of doors and accessories that improve safety. ThePanel Lift door range has a 'pinch free' design that stops fingers being trapped on both the inside and outside of the door. As an options extra, we recommend fitting an infrared beam that stops the door closing when the beam is broken. This is a great safety feature if you have small children or animals that run in and out of the garage.
Q - What accessories do you sell?
A - As well as safety features such as infra-red automatic stopping beams, we have a range of additional products for your opener such as extra remote control units, and keypads. Seals can be added to make your garage draft proof, and we even have a parking aid that ensures you'll never bump your garage wall. Need light in your garage? We can even add windows for you.
Q - How do I connect (code) the remote control to the garage door opener?
A -
Here are the step by step instructions to connect a PTX5 garage door remote control handset with a GDO6 ATA Garage Door Opener:

- Locate the ‘door code’ button on the panel
